What is Root Canal Treatment?

What is root canal treatment? It is among the treatment methods applied in cases where the tooth becomes infected and decays due to various reasons. It is an operation performed by closing the inside of the tooth with a filling after cleaning it. In cases where the bacteria in the teeth of patients with dental problems meet the nerve endings, they are examined by doctors and if deemed necessary, root canal treatment is performed.

If decay is not treated in cases where root canal treatment is required, it leads to tooth loss. Root canal treatment protects the tooth from decay or infection, and it is recommended that people who do not want to experience toothache have root canal treatment. Removal of nerves in the treatments performed does not harm the patient and on the contrary prevents toothache.

How Long Does Root Canal Treatment Take?

When we look at how long root canal treatment takes, these treatments are treated depending on the decay in the patient’s tooth. While some patients’ treatment process is completed in one session, some take two or three sessions. The person who will have root canal treatment must first be examined by a specialist. Then, as a result of the examinations, it is determined whether this treatment should be done. Regarding how root canal treatment is done,

  • In order for people undergoing root canal treatment to not feel any pain, the inside of the mouth is anesthetized.
  • After the numbing process is completed, necessary precautions are taken to prevent water from entering the tooth and the mouth.
  • The inside of the patient’s tooth is opened and cleaned by the doctor with a necessary tool, and then the nerves are removed.
  • After the root canal treatment is completed, the hole opened in the tooth is temporarily closed by the doctor and after the necessary results are achieved, it is completely closed.

There is no pain during root canal treatment and food consumption should be avoided for the first two hours after the operation. In the 24 to 48 hour period, it is recommended to consume food and liquids at room temperature in order to trigger any possible sensitivity in the tooth.

Root Canal Symptoms

When looking at the symptoms of root canal treatment, first of all, root canal treatment is a treatment performed as a result of damage to the tooth and the most important symptom is pain caused by decay. The treatment performed on the tooth also affects the decay in the nearby tooth, and patients may require root canal treatment in cases such as swelling in their mouths. In such cases, patients act on the advice of the doctor and may have the tooth extracted or refilled after the root canal treatment does not yield results.

Is Root Canal Treatment Difficult?

When looking at whether root canal treatment is difficult, local anesthesia is applied to the area where surgical intervention will be performed in root canal treatment and thus the patient does not feel any pain or ache during the treatment. The needle inserted into the gum during local anesthesia only gives a very light feeling like a fly bite for a few seconds. Therefore, we can easily say that root canal treatment does not cause the patient to experience pain during the time from the x-ray process to the permanent filling. Dt.
