Root Canal Treatment

It is the filling of the gap created by cleaning the vascular and nerve tissue in the root of the tooth and the visible part in the mouth with biocompatible materials in a leak-proof manner.

In what cases should it be done?

It is applied in cases where the intervention of tooth decay with a filling is insufficient, if there is inflammation, if the tooth decay has advanced, and if it is painful.

  • Treatment Duration

    One session 30-60 minutes

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

What is Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is usually applied for tooth decay that has progressed to the vascular nerve bundle (pulp chamber) of the tooth. Apart from this, trauma (impact) may be required when cutting the tooth for the crown. Chronic abscesses may occur without the patient knowing. In other words, pain is not certain before root canal treatment.

Patients should go to six-month check-ups, have a radiological examination and an intraoral examination. The biggest problem experienced after root canal treatment is the color change of the tooth. The restoration of the tooth should be done very well and be sure that there is no decay left behind. Root canal treated teeth are more fragile than living teeth because they lose fluid.

ABOUT THE TREATMENT

Kusadasi Root Canal Treatment

If the loss of material is high, inlays prepared in a laboratory environment can be preferred. A tooth that has undergone root canal treatment may become inflamed and painful again. As a result of microleakage or improper root canal treatment, bacteria advancing in the root canals may reach the bone tissue. In such cases, root canal treatment can be applied again.

In cases of abscesses that cannot be healed with root canal treatment, apical resection can be performed. Apical resection is the process of surgically cleaning the root tip and inflammatory tissue.

DETAIL

A Little Information

The answer to the question of how long does root canal treatment take is that on average, a session can last between 30 and 60 minutes. However, if the tooth to be treated has more than one root, this process can take up to 2 hours. In complex cases or cases that require additional treatments, treatment times can be longer.

ABOUT ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

Frequently Asked Questions

When is root canal treatment (endodontics) necessary?

If the decay is not treated in the initial stage, it progresses and can reach the nerve of the tooth and cause inflammation there (pulpitis). In this case, root canal treatment is required. During crown and bridge restorations, the nerve (pulp) of the tooth is exposed. Since this situation will cause severe pain, root canal treatment may be required. In some cases, root canal treatment may be required in teeth that have been subjected to trauma. Radiographs should be taken to determine this exactly.

Is root canal treatment a painful procedure?

Since local anesthesia is used during the procedure, there is no pain. A suitable painkiller can be used for mild sensitivity after the treatment.

How long are the sessions? Normally, it is best to complete the root canal treatment in a single session. However, in an infected tooth, it may take two or three sessions depending on the level of infection. In such cases, appropriate antiseptic dressings should be placed on the tooth between sessions and the tooth should be covered with temporary fillings.

What happens if root canal treatment is not performed?

In cases where it is not done; severe toothache is the most common complication. After a while, the pain stops as the pulp loses its vitality. However, in this case, the infection can progress insidiously and spread to the jawbone. Unwanted situations can be encountered that result in the loss of both the problematic tooth and the neighboring teeth.

Can my tooth that has undergone root canal treatment be saved?

No, your tooth is not finished yet. If there is not much material loss, a normal filling is required on your tooth whose root canals have been filled. If there is much material loss, a porcelain filling (inlay) is required to support your remaining tooth walls and prevent them from breaking in the future. If there is no tooth wall left, a post supported by your root canal needs to be made and a crown needs to be placed on it so that you can continue to use your tooth in the same way.

Does root canal treatment kill teeth?

The old belief that “root canal treatment kills the tooth” does not reflect the truth. After the living tissue inside the tooth is removed with root canal treatment, your tooth becomes insensitive to heat and cold; however, it continues its function with the veins or nerves coming from the jawbone and surrounding tissues and is held in the bone. With the help of a suitable filling or restoration after the treatment, you can chew very comfortably or use your tooth as a prosthetic foot.

Why don't I have my tooth extracted?

Some patients think that instead of root canal treatment, it would be better if they had their tooth extracted and had a bridge or implant made. No prosthesis can replace your own teeth.
